Director's Message

Welcome all parents and students to Tierra Encantada Charter School. I am very excited to see what this year brings as your new Interim Director, and it is my hope that as the year progresses I get to know you and your students personally. It is the goal of the amazing staff at Tierra Encantada to work with you to create a rich learning environment for all students. Student success is a shared responsibility between the school staff, students and parents.

This is a very exciting time. It is my hope that we will all meet any challenges with determination and excitement and celebrate learning. Education is a team process between school and home. As we work with our students to help them learn about the world around them through hands-on, project based curriculum, we very much appreciate the support that parents give students at home as they strive to reach their goals-both educational and personal.

The foundation of a successful school is the cooperation between the students, staff, parents and community. Parents are a vital part of Tierra Encantada.  You are invaluable to the school through volunteer time and support of school activities. I look forward to working with you and developing a relationship that will assist in the growth of all students at Tierra Encantada Charter School.

Art Club 2017/2018
Art and Social Justice: An Exercise in Creative Change

Fridays 1-3pm
 
Overview:
As part of a year long extracurricular experience students will engage in a dynamic exploration of the role of art and culture in social change. While the main focus of this experience is centered around art and the production thereof, the thematic content of this club will steer students towards an inquiry of how art practice can engage a larger cultural context to promote specific change oriented goals. Students will be given text to support their inquiry, along with research projects, fieldwork opportunities, and a final culminating product that will focus on students’ personal interest as derived from their research in the form of a change oriented art piece. This art piece can be in any medium of the student’s choosing but must address a larger social justice concern in an awareness raising capacity.
